§ 01 — Project Overview
A Match-3 prototype for a Bitcoin rewards SDK.
ZBD Earn Demo was created as a prototype game to showcase a reward SDK that allows players to earn redeemable Bitcoin rewards through gameplay. The goal was to create a fun and familiar Match-3 experience while naturally integrating a reward economy into the game.
The project was developed in under a week and went through several fast iterations. To speed up production, we used a pre-existing Unity framework inspired by Royal Match. Working alongside a game developer who already had a Royal Match-style package allowed us to focus more on the visual style, reward systems, and overall game feel.
The art pipeline combined AI-assisted workflows, Photoshop paint-overs, compositing, and asset refinement to quickly create polished visuals that fit within the existing Unity package. Rather than building an entirely custom game from scratch, the priority was speed, readability, and polish — creating a believable demo that could effectively showcase the SDK reward system in a playful and accessible way.

§ 02 — Match 3 Icons
Contrast in shape and colour, first.
We decided to use burger, corn, watermelon, and soda because they each had strong contrast in shape and colour, making them easy to recognise quickly during gameplay.
In match-style games, players make split-second decisions. If icons look too similar in colour or shape, gameplay becomes visually exhausting, making it harder for players to recognise matches quickly.
